@Noel Heavey, They are not sick. They are criminals. The church's assumption that the child rapists were sick is part of what caused the problerm.

@ Frank Browne, it's time not only for Murray but also for all the other clergy to be kicked out of our schools and hospitals. They have no business hiring and firing teachers.

If you're embarrassed to call your self catholic, then why bother?

I'm signing my declaration of defection today, and happily sending it to Donal Murray, bishop of nothing, in my opinion he abdicated his spiritual position when he knowingly enabled a paedophile. Only the hierarchy, and the indifferent blind faithful recognise his title now. Disgusting.

In protest to this I'm out of the church.

The veil has certainly been torn from grace.

And the longer we all stand and allow ourselves to be counted as catholics, the longer this sort of behaviour will continue.

I have known Bishop Murray as a student back in the 80's, he was at all times a caring and impressive teacher. He has admitted his errors in handling child abuse cases and has learned lessons on what is best child protection practice. If he now has learned these lessons and is an advocate for best practices in child protection what purpose would his resignation serve.

As a Catholic living and working in London with people of many faiths in the work place I am absolutly digusted when I see people like Bishop Murray who assisted criminals under his authorithy to evade justice . It must be the GREATEST betrayl since Judas. He is as guilty as his sick priests. Its not the people of Limerick that deside his right to remain in office . The DPP should prosecute him as an accessoriy to criminal behaviour .Put him with the Keanes and the other gangs in jail where he belongs.

I am a Catholic and take my faith seriously. I am truly ashamed to-day of the way my Church has been led in the grave matter of clerical sexual abuse. No matter how loathsome and heinous the crimes committed by the actual perpetrators one can somehow grasp that at least these must be very sick individuals at some level. No such excuse can be made for the bishops named in the Report and that is what makes their decades of cover-up and collusion all the more despicable They should resign without further delay. Apologies are no longer enough.

The fact that individuals like Donal Murray, the Bishop of Limerick, refuse to resign at this late date only indicated the level of hubris and chutzpah that is part and parcel of so many of these men in hierarchial circles.

While they are tripping over each other in offering apologies they are either unable or unwilling to recognize their contribution to the rottenness that is at the core of the church's government organization.

It is corrupted and they are corrupted. They system needs to be reformed and rebuilt from the ground up and the groundswell must come from the People of God.

Yes it is news . The dogs and car were stolen last Thursday night in Pallaskenry. The car was later found crashed in Bruff. The male dog is missing still one week on.His family are devestated.

limerick2 funny how you show up and post that comment after mine was removed shortly before you posted that..seriously.

That aside i think its absolute rubbish,that there are so many people on welfare,and the christmas bonus really was not appropriate there are people who have no interest in getting a job,and are happy to sign on every month(well it is every week now since the minister woke up and had to react to the amount of welfare fraud going on right under our noses),there are people who travel to ireland,(white uk'ers and black non eu and eu) for the sole purpose of signing on,i have no problem with the one's who are working or paying taxes.But we have enough of our own homegrown scum here.And we are not even dealing with them, we are just providing handouts,or giving them bed and board for popping some uglings out.It is hardly suprising considering there are so many in the dail ard fheis who are over paid,some of these ministers and td's are paid over E300,ooo euros every year for doing 20 hours work per week,their jobs are compromised by the fact they are close associates with prominent media figures and business owners..
